A Letter
to our Readers
MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL
Dear Readers,
The seasons had gone through one complete circle and soon another year
will begin.
In this New Year issue of Enchanting Myanmar we had selected a variety of
articles for your reading pleasure.
Our cousins in the Kachin State usually hold their traditional Manaw
celebrations around this time and we have an article to honour these
events, as well as to describe the richness of flora and fauna species of
their region.
Two articles on Mandalay are our next offerings. One reviews the greatness and pageantry of the last capital of Imperial Myanmar, Mandalay,
and the other is on the Royal Thrones and what each symbolized.
Another story is on the cute folk toys of Myanmar, by now becoming
collectibles as folk art.
On the Fullmoon Day ofTabaung, which falls on March 2003, our Pa O
brothers will be holding their annual festival at the famous Kekku
Pagoda. This article explains the history and the significant of this
Pagoda and the best time to visit the Festival.
Finally, Enchanting Myanmar continues the tradition of introducing a
Myanmar short story to the international audience with one about a
wedding. It describes the caring and warmth within a family and
among members of a community in spite of their lack of wealth.
Enjoy.
